 The authors purpose is just because your not smart like everybody else doesn't meen you can't succeed in life. That's the purpose because charlie wasn't smart and he thought he couldn't succeedd in life but if he kept trying he could.

 My favorite scene was when Charlie raced Algernon and finally beat him for the first time. I liked it because he was close to giving up on himself and he was struggling so hard to be smart.
